Not long ago, we marked the 33rd Yahrtzeit of our founder, the
revered Rabbi Moshe Bukshpan.
Reb Moshe began over 45 years ago, devoting his life to aiding poor
families in Jerusalem. Before every Shabbos, he would purchase food
at his own expense – mostly chickens, wine and cakes – and deliver
it to low-income families with many mouths to feed. The first soup
kitchen that he operated was in his own home, serving meals to
hungry, lonely people. Reb Moshe was reputed to never lock his door;
it was always open to the poor, day and night.
To support and expand his work, Reb Moshe began soliciting
contributions from friends and family. He sought – and found –
additional volunteers to help him. Slowly, the organization grew,
with more contributors and volunteers helping more needy families.
Reb Moshe’s passing in 1992 deprived the city and the world of this
wonderful man who lived to help others. His family members picked up
the reins of the organization he founded, and are continuing in his
tradition.
Today, Noam Shabbos – with your support – helps hundreds of poor
families every week, with food and clothing. It provides festive
meals every Shabbos and holiday to hundreds of lonely people.
